Barefoot Yoga Class Descriptions

Barefoot Yoga offers five styles of yoga – Hatha, Yoga Basics, Yang Yoga, Yin Yoga and Yang/Yin Yoga. We also host two regular community classes.

Yang Yoga

Yang Yoga is a steady-paced, Vinyasa-style class, which emphases moving with grace and improving physical strength. Every class includes sun salutations, balancing, backbends, forward bends, some inversions and meditation.

The room is heated to 25 degrees.

This class is open to all levels of experience. Please note it will be challenging at times but you can rest when you need to. If you are brand new you should try our Hatha, Yin and Yin/Yang classes first and then come to the Yang class after a few sessions.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga uses gentle long-held postures which are practiced with an attitude of compassionate acceptance to awaken the more Yin parts of our physical, emotional and spiritual selves.

By promoting the flow of energy (Qi) through the energy channels (meridians) of our deep Yin core, we can help bring health to our bodies and balance to our busy Yang-style lives.

Yin Yoga classes are ideal for sporty people who don’t stretch enough! In these classes we generally target the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. The room is gently heated in colder months.

This class is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced.

Yang/Yin

This class moves at a slow and steady pace to develop conscious awareness. The first half of the class is Yang Yoga, where we use rhythmic, flowing repetition of movements that require strength and balance.

The second half of the class is Yin Yoga, which utilises longer-held postures to target the connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine.

This class is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is based on more traditional yoga and is a great general-level class which is open to all levels. Hatha yoga class begins with gradually opening and loosening the body, followed by sun salutes, and holding classical yoga postures for a good length of time.

We also incorporate forward and backward bends, twists, inversions, expansion of breath and meditation. Hatha Yoga is suitable for all levels, including mothers, grandmothers, people recovering from trauma or injury, or anybody wanting an easy-going yoga class!

Yoga Basics

Foundations is the perfect class for both beginners and regular students, as we emphasise alignment, building postures from the ground up. The class moves at a slow pace and breaks down the key postures, giving students a deeper understanding of how and why yoga works. These foundations empower students with the knowledge to attend any yoga class.

Barefoot Yoga is a down-to-earth yoga studio in the heart of Paddington, Sydney, next to the Palace Verona Cinemas. We believe that you don’t need to be flexible, strong, nor good looking to practice yoga! Young or old, weak or strong, come as you are – everybody’s welcome.
